There are so many shows about Bigfoot that have come out on TV lately so I decided to some research into the mysterious crypto. While i was browsing through countless sites dedicated to Bigfoot, I came across a blog called Occult View. It is a great blog for anyone interested in the paranormal and i highly recommend you check it out. The blogger goes by the name davedol and let me tell you, he has some great theories about Bigfoot. Like the my title suggests, he believes that Bigfoot may in fact be a troll.
So why is this a great theory? Because it makes sense. Many believe (like me) that Sasquatch is a missing link, an ape that is almost human. I take pride in trying to think as logically and scientifically as possible. But what if the truth is far more fantastic? A troll is considered a "mythical" creature, one from the oldest folklores of Europe and in particular, the "Viking" countries. Bigfoot cases are world wide, but trolls are almost as equally popular.
Many of the classical descriptions are different than what most people think of trolls today. Trolls were originally beasts of the forests. Humanoids who were incredibly hairy, large, and strong. There are various descriptions of the size, with some being a bit larger than regular humans to being as tall as the trees. In fairytales, trolls were given more intelligence in order to communicate with humans. They also became more human looking. With pop culture wonders like World of Warcraft, the image of the troll has completely changed. That would explain why no one has ever picked up on the obvious similarities between trolls and Bigfoot.
If you want to see a troll, in our modern era, faithful to the original stories watch Troll Hunter. It is a great movie that touches on a lot of the distant legends of the creatures. Watching the movie you can clearly see the similarity to Bigfoot. The movie comes from Norway, a country littered with troll legends. Just watch the trailer below.
In the movie, the character who is actually a troll hunter, states that there are a few types of trolls. This is true in the actual folklore of the trolls. They mostly look the same, with the only differences being the environment they inhabit. Of course we all know about trolls living in forests, much like Bigfoot, but there are also mountain trolls. The Yeti is mostly seen near the Himalayas and other snow covered mountains. There are also water trolls. Maybe the Skunk Ape from the swamps of Arkansas is a water troll. Even here in my hometown of El Paso, there have been sightings of Bigfoot. Technically, the sightings have been in Horizon City, a few miles East of El Paso. We live in a mountainous area, but Horizon City is actually located in the middle of a valley, at least 35 miles away from the nearest mountains. Could the Horizon City Monster be a desert troll? Or maybe a mountain troll looking for water, like the mountain lions who occasionally come into the city?
The only part i don't agree with davedol on is that Bigfoot/trolls are mystical creatures. I will concede that if you look at the "Many Worlds Theory" (which i also believe) that maybe Bigfoot is from another dimension. Regardless, i still believe that Bigfoot is still just an animal. Maybe he is a new type of ape, and that trolls were a cases of our ancestors actually seeing these apes. I do believe that these things are out there. For someone to say it's impossible, is just ignoring history. Giant squid were thought to be tall tales told by fishermen and the crews of various pirate ships and other seafaring vessels. Almost two decades ago, we started seeing them washing up on our beaches. We have now even witnessed them in the wild. It is completely possible that we have missed seeing a new, undiscovered primate in the wild. Look at how many Native American legends refer to creatures that share the characteristics of Bigfoot and trolls.
Really, it is only a matter of time before we find these creatures. Or, at the very least, proof of the existence of these creatures. Until then everything is conjecture, but Bigfoot will always be with us in TV, movies and apparently stalking Larry the Cable Guy in Alaska.
Got your own theories? Let me know what you think in the comments.
