BISHOP'S Stortford may have to call Mulder and Scully following a spate of UFO sightings at the weekend.
Austin Almond, who lives in Queen's Crescent with mum Helen and younger brother Travis, was driving home from a friend's when he spotted five orange lights above his neighbourhood at 2am on Sunday (March 28).
After parking outside his house, the 22-year-old got out his mobile phone to try to catch the fast-moving objects on video. But as soon as he began filming they made a speedy getaway.
Desperate to prove his eyes weren't playing tricks, he chased them as they shot into the distance. He snatched a few seconds of footage, which can be seen above.
Austin said: "They didn't look like they were more than a few hundred feet in the air - they were much bigger in the sky than a star. I didn't know what they were and at first I thought I was seeing things!"
As the video shows, he stood in awe as the objects danced around the night sky, hovering in one place for a moment before zipping about again. They moved towards the town centre and Austin followed them to the Archers pub in Havers Lane before they vanished.
He said: "It was really weird because it was almost like they'd seen me and decided to disappear. The video I got is fairly clear, but it only shows one of the objects and it's nothing compared to what I actually saw. I just wish someone else had been there."
But Austin wasn't the only one to have a paranormal experience that night. Less than two hours earlier, Stortford resident Jeff Beard - who was driving home from London with his family - spotted orange lights above Start Hill near the M11 roundabout.
He says the objects had three leaders flying in a triangle formation, with up to 10 others trailing behind. The family kept track of the UFOs as they drove down Dunmow Road, but again the group suddenly vanished just before Haymeads Lane.
The 62-year-old, who lives in Thorley Park, said: "It was very strange - I've never seen anything like it.
"I don't think they could have been ordinary aeroplanes, the way they were flying. I'm just so glad we're not the only ones who saw it.
"I did speak to the Ministry of Defence, but they said they don't take reports of incidents like this any more."
