No matter how unrealistic a topic may be people will still believe in it because others state it as the truth.

Also, this section of Sagan's book "The Demon-Haunted World" relates to the pseudoscience and the paranormal course because the lecture contained many videos that showed people who claimed to be abducted by aliens which gives many others the lead way to also claim that they have been abducted by aliens.Sagan discusses a book that he read entitled "The Fifty-Minute Hour" in which a psychoanalyst name Robert Linder was suppose to treat a physicist with the code-name Kirk Allen, who believed that he could travel into the future and see space crafts. The more Linder heard Allen's stories, the more he believed that they were true. This relates to the pseudoscience and the paranormal class because the more claims that people hear about UFO abductions and products that claim to treat depression such as aromatherapy the more they believe in these claims and try false solutions to their problems.

The last chapter of Carl Sagan's book is chapter 25 which is entitled "Real Patriots Ask Questions" made me think about the book "The Demon-Haunted World" outside of class. Sagan states that "The methods of science-with all of its imperfections-can be used to improve social, political, and economic systems, and this is, I think, true no matter what criterion of improvement is adopted." (Sagan 423) Sagan also states that "In almost all cases, adequate control experiments are not performed, or variables are insufficiently separated." (Sagan 423) The world faces many problems that need to be experimented over and over again until a solution is found. By just trusting people who claim to be an authority in a certain subject without question we will never know the answers if we do not completely agree with what this authority figure is claiming. If people start to look things scientifically and if people demand an answer that can be proven than a lot of issues within our society can be cleared up.

This flight path was from south to north and I didn't hear a thing as it passed overhead. The altitude was hard to judge (not knowing the actual size) but it looked to be 3-4 thousand feet up. Hard to tell, just a wild guess. Mentioned the sighting to my girlfriend, whom I was talking to, because I had not responded to her during the sighting. After it had dimmed, I noticed for the fist time something identical to it's level of light down and slightly to the right of this object. At the beginning of this event, they were not sharing the same level of light so the object below the first noticed item was at the same level it was before the object above started to dim to the same level of light. Once the brighter object dimmed, they began to move in unison holding the same distance between the each other and headed down and north east to below the visible horizon. As I had nothing but my phone on hand, I was unable to capture any images of this event but swear on my life this took place. I have included a screen capture from a star map app on my iPad mini since I had to know if there was anything present in that spot in the sky. When placing the iPad in the area with the app running, and adjusting the visible stars to a little higher than what I was actually seeing in the sky, the two objects were not recorded. The only star that actually showed was Kochab (Beta Ursae Minoris). I do not know if this app updates in real time but the two objects I saw were not there when searching the area in which they were seen. I should note that as I have mentioned seeing the glowing 'orb' twice before, I was at work and outside. It had been hazy each time before but it was obvious that the most visible object was there and dimming to almost nothing. I was unable to see the object move unlike today when seeing them in a perfectly clear night sky.
