In the first half of Tuesday's show, actress, writer, and stand-up comedian Brett Butler, best known for playing the title role in the TV comedy series "Grace Under Fire ", joined George in-studio to talk about her work in the entertainment industry and how recovery helped her tune into her psychic ability as a medium and cultivate her interests in UFOs and the paranormal. I posted this recently in response to UFO Updates, Errol Bruce-Knapp's excellent UFO discussion forum. My submission was because of a thread regarding the Condon Committee's stance that few UFOs were unexplained, yet a review of their data showed that more than 50% of their cases were unexplained. Discussion ensued concerning how skeptics leap on the suggestion that only about 5% of all UFO reports are unexplained, and that even these might be explained away, leaving nothing at all.

I know that Brad and others have attacked me for daring to publish our results showing that only a small percentage of UFOs are high-quality unknowns, but to quote Stan Friedman, it seems to be a matter of: "I've made up my mind, don't bother me with the facts."
The reality is that when we started doing our case-by-case analysis many years ago, I was actually surprised that when we actually looked at each case in the files, the percentage of high-quality unknowns was really not very high. In fact, the percentage ranged between 2 and 10 per cent. Overall, on first pass, the percentage of unknowns from the raw data us about 15 per cent, but when we sat down and went through the cases, we could whittle that down to a smaller number of "good cases" each year.

[I think the reason why the Condon Report had more than 50 per cent unknowns is because they seemed to only publish details on well-investigated cases. (One case in particular that I have studied and written about extensively, the Falcon Lake case, is Case 22 in the Report, and I note in my lectures that it's listed as "unexplained.")]
I'm working with Gf Dittman now on a 20-year longitudinal analysis of Canadian UFO reports. It's been two decades since we began compiling case data and publishing the annual Canadian UFO Survey as of next year, and I am going back to combine all the years' data into one file for a thorough analysis. (This is a difficult job for many reasons I can talk about later.) I started with the 1989 reports and began sorting through them one by one. No matter what the source: military, police, UFO groups, NUFORC, Vike, or UFOROM, the majority of reports are simple lights in the sky, stars, planets, fireballs, meteors, aircraft and balloons. Only a small percentage each year are unknowns, and only a smaller number are "good"
cases.
How, then, do we reconcile the difference between the perceived impression that the percentage of unknowns must be higher than 5 per cent with the result of looking at the actual data?
First of all, I must say that I have great respect for Don Ledger. He has been invaluable in helping me with UFO case investigation in the Maritimes year after year. I cannot disagree with his view that the percentage of unknowns within cases he deals with is higher than 5 per cent.
All I can do is note that in the data we have available to us, and this includes RCMP files, National Defence as well as civilian reports, the percentage of unknowns is relatively low. The much-heralded MoD release of British cases supports this too; most of the official British cases aren't that interesting. (Note: In Canada, we have had access to these kinds of "official UFO reports" for many years.)
One obvious solution to the paradox is to suggest that the databases themselves are flawed. Brad Sparks has argued that we're including too many IFOs instead of UFOs, hence the percentages are skewed. But when you look at the labels for the databases (particularly civilian websites), they all describe "UFO" reports. Even the cases we get from RCMP and military sources are actually titled "UFO Sighting" at the top of the standard form, and most of these turn out to be stars or planets.
So, I doubt this is the case. The reality is that when one looks at raw UFO report data, only a relatively small percentage is categorized as "unknown."
As for the problem that debunkers use the small percentage as fuel for their argument that the unknowns are only outliers and "noise" in the data, this is not supported. As Stan Friedman notes in his lectures (and books), even the USAF Special Report tables show that the unknowns are fundamentally different from the knowns, insufficient data cases and explained cases. Remember, we note in our annual surveys that the high-quality unknowns are not filed as "possible explanation" cases or "insufficient information" cases. These are relatively well-investigated UFO cases that do not seem to have prosaic explanations such as stars, planets, aircraft, fireballs, balloons or the like.
I would suggest that ufologists not deny that the percentage of unknowns is low in the body of UFO data. I don't think there's any reason to worry that debunkers will use this fact as ammunition to attack UFO reports in general. Big deal. The facts speak for themselves. There are a dozen or two good cases every year in Canada; probably a factor of ten more than that in the USA. Many more around the world.
These are the cases to focus on. I don't worry about the IFOs, but I need to identify which cases are which through solid case investigation, research and analysis.

It was a terrifying close encounter which led to the only case in British history of an alien sighting being the subject of a criminal investigation.
Exactly 25 years later, the case is still open on forestry worker Bob Taylor's brush with mysterious alien spheres on Dechmont Law.
Now on the anniversary of the event, UFO enthusiasts are set to descend on the site, to show that the truth really is out there. They have arranged to visit the site today to meditate in silence at the exact time of Mr. Taylor's encounter. (This was written in 2004)
The event has been organized by paranormal investigator Ron Halliday, Chairman of Scottish Earth Mysteries Research, who believes the encounter to be one of the most significant events in the history of UFOlogy. It is certainly one of the best-documented, and to this day defies rational explanation.
On November 9, 1979, at around 10:30 am, Mr. Taylor, then a forestry worker employed by the Livingston Development Corporation, parked his truck at the bottom of Dechmont Law.
He walked up the lower slope of the hill with his dog, and as he emerged into a clearing saw a large, circular, sphere-like object about 20 feet across. Mr. Taylor said it appeared to be made from a dark metallic material with a rough texture like sandpaper.
As he approached the object, two spheres, each about three feet wide with protruding metal spikes like old naval mines, dropped from the object.
THE TWO SPHERES ROLLED TOWARDS HIM AND DESPITE HIS DOG BARKING FURIOUSLY, ATTACHED THEMSELVES TO HIS TROUSERS. There was an acrid smell that caused him to choke and he felt a sensation of being grabbed by the side of the legs and tugged forward.
The next thing Mr. Taylor remembered was waking up with his head pounding, a sore throat, and a bitter taste in his mouth. He calculated that he had been unconscious for at least 20 minutes.
"I was completely devastated afterwards," he recalled. "I couldn't walk and the doctor came to look at me. We went back with the police and found all these marks where it had been."
The police found unusual indentations in the ground, ladder-shaped marks where the craft was said to have stood and marks following the path of the mine-like objects.
They said they were "completely baffled" by the incident, which was treated as an assault.
Now 87, Mr. Taylor moved away from the area after the event, but on the eve of the anniversary he revealed it was still in his thoughts. "I stand by every word of my account of the incident," he said. "I told it as it happened and it's as clear as yesterday. It is the most amazing thing that ever happened to me.
"I know what I saw and it looked like a spaceship, a huge flying dome. I'm not surprised there has been so much interest in it over the years as it was such an incredible thing to happen."
Mr. Halliday believes going back to the site on the anniversary could yield some clues to the nature of the encounter, and has not ruled out the possibility of once again making contact.
"We want to go back to the site to mark this anniversary and perhaps by being there we will be able to make contact again with whatever it was Bob Taylor saw," he said.
"It is possible that this was something from another dimension which for a short period of time appeared in our world. That fits with what Taylor saw, as he said the object appeared solid but at brief moments was shimmering and partially transparent.
"Even skeptics believe he is telling the truth about what he saw, and no explanation has been given to what it could have been."
Mr. Taylor's encounter took place on the edge of the area known as the Falkirk triangle, one of the most "visited" UFO hotspots in the world. Around 300 UFOs are seen in Scotland each year, the highest concentration of UFO sightings on the planet.

I'm a pretty reasonable person and I love science. The evidence of the ancient aliens is overwhelming. And the footage of the Phoenix lights and one UFO I saw has me convinced they are here now. I am also a Christian and I don't think the Bible addresses aliens at all so its up to our study and speculation. But there will always be someone there to squash the truth and make people like me sound crazy.

Are you right? I don't think so. Every last UFO sighting has a good explanation. I lived in Phoenix when those lights happened (assuming that we're both referencing the same lights). I've lived near military bases, from tank, artillery and infantry training, and even more frequently, aircraft fighter and strike-fighter ranges. They showed the lights, and I immediately thought, "Oh, illumination flares for CAS." But no, I got "UFOs"
It seems pretty reasonable to think that any other alien civilization out there is probably just about our same age, same technology. Unless they have made a faster-than-light breakthrough, traveling to distant solar systems is no more reasonable than it is for us.

The show examined the angels of Sodom and Gomorrah, with Lot turning to a pillar of salt when seeing a nuclear blast. The show did not mention the usual "moral" (to use the word loosely) misuse of this Biblical story.
The show examined whether the Transfiguration on Mt. Herman invoked angels, and it was at the same parallel (33rd) as Roswell, NM.
