One witness reports while driving his car on highway 95 near Laughlin that he sighted an object coming up off the ground and flying over the road going towards a house were it hovered for a while. The witness said the object then shined down a light on it then the light went out. The witness said it was the brightist light he had ever seen. He said the color of the light was bluish white. The witness said then the object flew over the road and shined down a light on a parked car and hovered there till the lights went out again. The witness was still in his car at this time. He said that the object then came over to his car and shined down two lights. He could not see the outline of the object but only the bright lights. The witness also said that the object was hovering 5 feet off the ground and the distance from the object to his car was about 20 feet away. He then lost sight of it. The witness said that the length of the object was about two cars long. He also said that the shape of the light looked like a shaft. The witness said that his car radio went off when the sighting took place.

Australian's are seeing strange things in the skies and sometimes on the ground, from Melbourne to Mullumbimby, from Budgewoi to Bundaberg. UFO sightings have never been more frequent, yet politicians are keeping mysteriously quiet on the topic.
One of these politicians is Malcolm Turnbull, one of the biggest names in Australian politics. Malcolm Turnbull is a member of the Australian Parliament and the Leader of one of Australia's two main political parties, The Liberal Party, the party identified with John Howard, Australia's previous leader. Turnbull served as the minister for the environment under John Howard.
The party is now in opposition, however Turnbull stands a good chance of being Australia's next Prime Minister. Turnbull is also highly associated with the movement calling for Australia to ditch the UK Monarchy. If he does become PM Australia might have a good chance of becoming a republic (in the event Australia's current PM, Mr Kevin Rudd doesn't beat him to it) but don't hold your breath for any UFO related disclosure.
Michael Cohen, of All News Web, happened to chance upon Mr Turnbull and ask him a few questions regarding UFO related topics, probably the first time he was asked anything on the topic by any media outlet. Some of the answers he gave were startling.
On the issue of whether he would disclose what the Government knew about UFO's, alien visitation and contact with humans he was rather evasive and claimed he wasn't sure the Government knew anything and if anyone did know something they weren't telling him or anyone he knows. Then he made the surprise revelation that 'Information on that subject would be above top secret, the highest classification of secrecy'. This was a truly remarkable comment. He then mentioned that 'Australia hasn't had its Roswell yet' to which our reporter replied 'That's not exactly true.'
So there we have it, yet another top ranking politician alluding to a government within a government that might know something about the topic but isn't telling anyone, even elected officials and party heads.
When asked if he believed earth is being visited by Aliens and whether he believed in UFO's he simply reversed the question and asked our reporter if he did. Yet the impression gained was that he knew more than he was prepared to give away.
Reality is that Australia's attitudes towards UFO disclosure are as progressive as the nation's attitudes towards internet censorship: We can expect secrecy for decades. I guess we will never find out why so many UFO sightings down under involve helicopters in tow, spotlights searching for something in sky. We will never find out why the next day no one can even confirm if there were helicopters aloft the night before, what government department they were from or what the heck they were searching the sky for at 2am.
After all, we powerless mere mortals are way too dumb to be trusted with information on questions like 'is there anyone out there?' We would rather leave that to the 'elected' elite that control our lives.

MEXICAN WALKING FISH

The Mexican walking fish is on the verge of extinction. It's a caecilian (more about that in a bit), and it lives in - where else? - the waters off Mexico. It's also important because it will be the only cute animal in this entire post. Awww. It really is cute, isn't it? It's always nice to start things off gently. Digital foreplay, if you will.
GOLIATH BIRD EATING SPIDER

Only the biggest spider on earth, this plate-sized bird-gnawing beast actually prefers to feast on smaller fare, like bats, bugs, and annoying children. In other words, the bird-eating spider rarely eats birds. Sure. Anyway, like its tarantula cousin below (the whistling spider) the Goliath or bird-eating spider is at risk due to its Amazonian habitat destruction. Though tarantulas are scary, they're fairly harmless to humans.
WHISTLING SPIDER

Here, human human human human. "Good" human! The whistling spider is able to emit a distinctive whistle by rubbing its legs together. What, you thought spiders had lips? How else would they whistle! It's a vital part of its native ecosystem and while it is not critically endangered, habitat destruction puts this important species at risk.
CHINESE GIANT SALAMANDER

Something tells us these giant salamanders were never called for in any witch's recipe. Seriously, look at that thing! That lives under some people's "porches!" The United States is also home to a giant salamander called the Hellbender, and it's...well, the name fits. However, it is not as endangered as the shockingly strange-looking Chinese cousin. The Chinese giant salamander can grow to be nearly six feet long.
LORD HOWE ISLAND STICK INSECT

Delightfully crisp! Kidding, kidding. There are hundreds of stick insects, but the Lord Howe Island stick insect is by far the most critically endangered of all of them. It can grow to five inches in length; but don't worry, it's not poisonous. Just crunchy.
WETA

Think of this cheery critter as you would a common mouse: not terribly enjoyable to have underfoot, but vital to the ecosystem all the same. The weta is native to New Zealand and while it's something of an icon thanks to Peter Jackson, non-native species, pest eradication and general ugliness (which really can't be helped now, can it?) have all contributed to the sad plight of the weta. There are actually over 70 species of weta, with 16 being endangered or at risk. The giant weta was thought to be extinct, but a new population was recently found. They aren't the cutest bugs around, but they are harmless and besides, they put up with your mug, don't they?
GIANT WATER BUG
The inspiration for Alien? The palm-sized giant water bug possesses a syringe-like tooth that bores into its prey, injects a toxic venom that liquefies the animal's insides, and then...meat's back on the menu! One of the favorite treats of Giant Water Bugs that live in the Amazon is the piranha. If that tells you anything. Why would we want something so bad ass to go extinct? It's not like other animals are waiting around to eat piranhas.
FRIGATE ISLAND BEETLE

Put anything in a place where it's hot and wet 99% of the time, and it will grow. Whether it's a fern, a vine or a dear-Jeebus-that's-horrifying beetle, things just come bigger in the tropics. The seriously endangered and geographically unique Frigate Island Beetle is no exception. It's the largest of the tenebrionid beetles and the most at risk. If you ever leave the internet long enough to visit Frigate Island and you pick up a beetle and it stains your hands and clothes with a "musky" scented purple ink, put that little guy somewhere safe! You've just happened upon a Frigate Island beetle.
GIANT PALOUSE EARTHWORM

At lengths of up to one foot, the Giant Palouse is the largest earthworm on earth. It's quite harmless, but unfortunately it's endangered all the same. It lives in Eastern Washington State and Idaho and was thought to be extinct until 2005, when a student discovered a living specimen. Previous sightings hadn't happened since the 1980s. Part of the reason it's so hard to find the Giant Palouse? They burrow 15 feet into the ground.
GIANT COCONUT CRAB

This is not shopped. This is not a hoax. That is a giant crab on a garbage can. They're native to Guam and other Pacific islands. Coconut crabs aren't endangered, per se, but due to tropical habitat destruction they are at risk. In WWII, American soldiers stationed in the Pacific theater wrote home with tales about entire atolls being covered in the armor-plated giants. These crabs can crack a coconut in one swipe; but they're generally too slow to be very dangerous to humans. Children pass lazy afternoons by picking the crabs off tree trunks and watching them crash to the ground; it's reportedly great fun. And kind of messed up.
CRINOID SNAPPING SHRIMP

The tiny Crinoid snapping shrimp is the tiniest of all the snapping shrimp, and the only one that is endangered. The snapping shrimp is often called the pistol shrimp because it comes with its very own "gun" by which it makes a loud cracking, shooting noise. It really only shoots air, but the stun gun is enough to knock out prey foolish enough to swim past.

The Honduran ghost bat is not officially endangered, but many American ecologists consider it to be threatened due to rainforest habitat destruction and climate change. It is unique, both for its tiny size (just a few centimeters) and its pale coloring.
MALLORCAN MIDWIFE TOAD

The Mallorcan Midwife toad...is a dude. In a gender-bender twist that seems to occur a lot in the frog world, this toad swaps child-bearing and child-rearing duties. The father serves as a surrogate for the tots until they hatch, and even cares for them after. Mom, meanwhile, hunts and generally stays out partying every night. Females will even compete with each other for mating rights, much like males of other animal species.
QUACKING FROG

The quacking frog makes a sound that is just like a small duck. Go on, listen! Unfortunately, like many frogs, the quacking frog is endangered. Scientist are particularly concerned when frogs disappear or show signs of stress, because frogs are considered indicator species.

The glass frog is endangered, as well. And absolutely stunning, so it would be a shame if we let it die out. Note the visible organs in this beautiful specimen. Unfortunately, with tropical rainforests in Central and South America threatened (in some places, the problem is actually worse than it was in previous decades), the glass frog may go extinct.

There are actually a number of legless amphibians, but some of the strangest ones have tentacles sprouting from their heads. They're known as caecilians, and some of them have some really unusual physical adaptations for a number of functions (the Mexican Walking Fish at the top of this post is just one). One caecilian has a protruding tail-like limb that enables external fertilization, for example. Though they look like soft worms, they have rows of very sharp teeth. There are over 120 species of caecilians around the world that have been discovered so far, but many of them are endangered and we don't know much about them.
KOMODO DRAGON

Threatened by both volcanoes and humans, this fascinating prehistoric relic is endangered. At 10 feet and 330 pounds, it is the largest lizard in existence. They have poor hearing and cannot run very fast for very long, instead relying on their sharp eyesight and powers of stealth to hunt. It possesses serrated teeth and has nasty attack habits, preferring to jab at the feet or drag its prey along for a bit before finishing off the deed. If an animal is lucky enough to get away, it will soon die from massive infection thanks to the komodo's specialized bacteria. Komodos will eat nearly anything, living or dead, including their own young. Unlike the great cats, they will also eat nearly all of their kill, even the intestines, although they do swing those around to expel the feces first as they really don't like excrement. For this reason, baby komodos roll themselves in feces to avoid being eaten.
KAGU

A rare New Zealand bird, not much is known about the enigmatic Kagu. It is flightless, though its wings are large; it is a forest-dweller, though its markings are oddly light in color. Very few remain and scientists know little about its preferences and habits. We do know that it possesses "nasal corns" unlike any other bird. For reasons unknown, the kagu also has one-third the red blood count of other birds. Scientists have had a difficult time classifying this rare and unusual bird.
HAIRY NOSED WOMBAT

Though it looks similar to the standard wombat, the hairy nosed wombat possesses some unique features. Among the rarest mammals in the world, it has a backwards-opening pouch and is the largest burrowing herbivorous mammal known to humans. The other oddity of the hairy nosed wombat is that its teeth continue to grow throughout its life - now that's long in the tooth!
STRIPED RABBIT

Only discovered within the last decade, the striped rabbit is considered a bit of a scientific novelty owing to its unusual markings. It comes from a region of Burma that has revealed many unusual species previously unknown to scientists, including a miniature deer. Pictures are scarce.

The PA Bigfoot Society received its first email in regards to the case:
The email read "Today in Somerset county PA a turkey hunter shot and killed an animal he claimed is a Sasquatch. The state police were called and responded to the scene, according to chatter on the local police frequencies the officers confirmed there was an unidentified animal shot and killed. Details are a bit fuzzy at this time. Any investigative assistance would be appreciated."

The Pa Bigfoot Society received a second email. This one had a name and contact phone number attached. The email read "Hello, YES this is legit, a strange report came over the scanner here in Somerset, Pa. just a few miles from Flight 93memorial. The message went to the local Police department. The report stated that a hunter had shot a Sasquatch while hunting turkey this morning. This is the first day of Spring Turkey in Pennsylvania. Later a second confirmation message on the scanner stated that yes there was a body but was unable to identify who or what it was. This all started about 10:30 AM and continued through most of the day. The location was stated as Russell or Rustic Road (too fast to be sure) here in the local area of Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Just wanted to let someone know."
Both emails were then forwarded off to PBS investigator Ron Gallucci because he is a nearby resident and closest to the area. The emails were also forwarded off to long time UFO/Bigfoot researcher Stan Gordon.
Both Stan and Ron made contact with the author of the second email.
Stan reported he contacted the email author and amateur radio (ham) operator who had made contact with the Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society concerning the police radio transmission. From him Stan learned that the radio chatter in question had actually been heard by his friend who is another ham operator. Soon after, Stan talked with that man directly and learned some additional details.
The person who heard the transmission has a public safety scanner radio, better known as a police scanner, which is programmed to receive the Somerset County Public Safety radio transmissions that would include police, fire, and EMS. The radio transmission was broadcast over the scanner, and not over ham radio equipment. The man stated that he had heard a radio transmission come across a county police frequency.
The man stated he heard the Somerset County Dispatch Center contacting an area police department, but he was unsure as to what municipality it was. What he said he heard was that a hunter had called and stated that he had shot a Bigfoot. He soon heard some radio chatter from police who were reportedly joking about the report. It was about 20 minutes later that he said he heard a police officer radio back and state, "there was a body." He said the next radio transmission to the officer was, "call the center."
The witness also mentioned to Stan that soon after he heard the sound of what appeared to be a large helicopter near his house. The sound was so loud it shook his house, so he went outside to take a look. It was then that he observed a formation of four Army Apache helicopters approaching from the north and moving in the direction of Somerset. The man frequently sees such helicopters flying around that general area, but he thought the timing was interesting since the choppers were moving toward the direction of the location where the report of a Bigfoot had allegedly been shot just a short time before.

CIRCLES1.ASC
The concepts in this document are based on known and current
technologies and capabilities as extrapolated by Jerry Decker,
Cheyenne Turner, Ron Barker, Chuck Henderson, and brought up in
discussions with various other associates of KeelyNet and Vanguard
Sciences.
It is offered to the public as a VERY RATIONAL alternative to the
current UFO speculations regarding the crop circles.
Crop Circles a Hoax?
By now, most people are aware of the mysterious crop circles which
have appeared in England and now are showing up in the United
States. The patterns began with simple circles that have now become
complex patterns including lines and intricate designs.
The circles appear in wheat fields in the form of wheat stalks that
are pressed down; usually in a swirling pattern having rotations in
either a counter-clockwise or clockwise direction.
Both mystical and pseudo-scientific relationships have been attached
including :
1) herds of mating hedgehogs,
2) violent atmospheric disturbances,
3) lung-mei (earth energies most commonly referred to as dragon
currents) linked to megalithic sites,
4) UFO landing sites
5) hoaxers
Specific observations regarding the circles
1) There are NO vehicle tracks or footprints leading into or
out of the fields when the circles appear.
2) The circles appear within a very short period of time. The
best estimate I have seen between creation and observation
of a circle is within an hour.
3) The circles ALWAYS APPEAR AT NIGHT.
4) In some cases a warbling sound and a moving orange light
precede the circle appearance. Other cases cited a
whooshing sound.
5) The crops affected by the circle are sometimes "woven" in a
basket weave pattern.
6) The affected crops are bent in a more nearly horizontal
position and continue to grow in that position for a
considerable time after the circle manifestation.
7) The affected crops are bent as if the plant cells were
"melted". Microscopic examination shows no fracturing or
breaking of plant cells indicative of forced bending.
We have a multiplicity of facts to consider which, when taken
together, show a most interesting hypothesis as to a probable cause.
Before going into the hypothesis, let me first state that circular
patterns have been associated with UFO sightings for many years
before Man began launching rockets and satellites into space.
A specific case is that of Billy Meier in Switzerland. Videotapes
of the patterns left at alleged landing sights have three primary
features which correlate exactly with the crop circles. These are :
1) A swirling pattern (always circluar) appears in grass.
2) The grass grows in the swirling pattern for several months
AFTER the alleged landing.
3) Many of the sites are in secluded and highly remote areas,
some impossible to access with a vehicle.
Prior to the last 3 to 5 years, no UFO trace landing site had shown
evidence of any pattern beyond simple circles.
Since the inception of SDI (the Star Wars program), Man has had the
capability of projecting high intensity laser beams followed
immediately by EXTREMELY high electrical charges aimed at targets on
the planet.
SDI uses very high intensity lasers (EXCIMER LASERS) to generate and
project these beams of UltraViolet light.
High intensity UV light cohered into laser beams IONIZES the air
through which the beam passes thus creating a conducting path.
How Star Wars works
The idea is :
1) to build up a very high electrical charge in the satellite,
2) target a structure from space using a weak UV laser
3) increase the amplitude of the UV laser beam until a highly
ionized path is created from the satellite to the target
4) this ionized path acts as an electrical conductor much like a
wire being thrown from the satellite to the target
5) the electrical energy is then transferred to the laser beam
path which passes the artificial "lightning" to the target
6) as the electrical energy passes into the target, the
molecules are electrostatically repelled with explosive
velocities causing the target to explode.
The SDI Circle Hypothesis
All cells contain DNA and RNA among other things. These two complex
molecules are especially sensitive to UV frequencies in the range of
260 NM.

In addition, cells can be "denatured" or "melted" when exposed to
temperatures in the range of 73 to 77 degrees Celsius. This causes
the ladder-like structure of the DNA/RNA to begin to separate.
This is one of the reasons high energy sources are so dangerous to
living systems. The energy causes micro-heating in the DNA/RNA
which partially "melts" the tissues.
When the heating is removed (and depending on the degree of
melting), the DNA/RNA will revert to the original mirror symmetry
pattern.
This is not always a perfect reversion to the original pattern
however. Sometimes the patterns are so distorted as to produce
mutations in the form of cancer and other diseases.

Plants also are made up of cells. If these cells are subjected to a
high intensity UV laser, heating occurs causing the plants to melt
like plastic at their weakest point, i.e. the stalk.

Two dimensional laser displays rely on a device known as an acousto-
optic modulator. This is simply a front surface mirror (reflecting
only from the exposed side) which vibrates on either an X or a Y
axis.
When the modulator is driven by a sufficiently fast device (like a
computer), the laser beam can be reflected off the mirror to paint a
picture on any surface. The flatter the surface (and the more
perpendicular to the beam), the more perfect the reproduction of the
intended image.
If a UV laser were to be properly directed from a space satellite
(intended to be used for SDI purposes), it could quite easily
"paint" a picture on earth or crops.

Only the crops within the beam would be sufficiently melted to cause
the bending effect. That is why microscopic examination of the
stalk shows no tearing or cellular rupture as it would be if bent by
force.
* * *
Now as to the swirling effect of the crop patterns. Anytime a
charged air mass is moved, it must necessarily move air with it.
This effect is used commercially for the production of sound from
electrostatic speakers.
When the UV laser is being rapidly directed from the satellite, the
air WILL follow the pattern and effectively push the crops into the
desired direction while they are under the "melting/denaturation"
process.
This sudden moving of air from a moving electrostatic column would
cause a whooshing sound.
Also, the moving orange light could quite well be an electrical
effect in the form of a plasma.
Some of our group find it quite humorous to think that some of the
SDI people would be playing such an elaborate prank using such a
sophisticated means of application.
Chuck Henderson even suggested that the work might be that of one or
more "hackers" who had broken the access and command codes for the
SDI satellite.
The intriguing thing about the crop circles is that to date, ALL
sightings PRIOR to the SDI project; NEVER involved complex
geometries or patterns beyond a circle shape.
This would follow the UFO landing site theory, that is any pattern
found within the circle could be landing gear or some other
attachment of which we currently know nothing. Note that no lines
or other complex patterns were EVER found before SDI.
I understand that some people had voiced the opinion that "if the
circles are the work of an intelligent force, then the pattern would
be more complex."
Another comment was to the effect that "lines or geometric patterns
would be highly indicative of an intelligence at work."
Damned if within the next couple of weeks, lines and more complex
patterns began showing up. Just as if some SDI (or hacker) had read
or heard the media report of such a comment and courteously
"obliged" the request.
I (Decker) cannot help but find a great deal of humor in the
MAJORITY of UFO cases over the past few years. Between the
outrageous abductions and the claims of greys eating humans, it is
getting out of hand, even exceeding my credulity (which has been
said to be pretty outrageous).
The TV show "America's Funniest Home Videos" had a segment which I
thought perfectly depicted the majority of UFO "believers" of today.
A viewer took his video camera to the zoo and trained it on a group
of penguins standing in front of a dimly lit wall. He then played a
very tight flashlight beam on the wall and moved it back and forth.
Each time, the penguins would follow as if it were food or something
of interest.
A most hilarious effect, much like my cat following a laser beam.
He would even go so far as to hurt himself while jumping to "catch"
the moving light.
At any rate, now that there is a somewhat logical hypothesis which
matches and explains a good deal of the phenomena, we can figure out
a means of proving it.
How to Prove the SDI Circle Hypothesis
Two techniques for detecting the signs of the UV laser would take
the following form :
Technique 1 - use of a camera to automatically record the phenomena
1) proper filtration and the use of a film sensitive to UV
wavelengths would record the "spotlight" of the beam as it
swept the ground
2) multiple consecutive and rapid exposures of the UV sensitive
film should be made to record the movement of the beam as it
traces the pattern
Technique 2 - cloud beam detectors
1) pressurized containers containing a powder or gas which
emitted visible light in the presence of UV wavelengths
2) these containers would be triggered to emit large clouds of
powder and show the presence of the beam
3) once the beams were detected, video cameras could tape the
clouds and show the moving beam presence and pattern
(depending on the speed)
Detection of the presence of the UV laser beam
1) the whooshing sound creating by the moving air as a result
of the "scanned" beam could be used as a trigger
2) the abrupt change in the electrostatic potential due to the
establishment of the conducting path in the immediate area
could be used as a trigger
3) human spotters to monitor for changes in the ambience of the
area and manually trigger the recording devices
One of the reasons I dissociated with ACTIVE participation with the
UFO movement was the gullibility of many of the people involved as
well as the ridiculousness of many of the stories.
I have met people who have spent as much as 30 years of their lives
studying this phenomenon without ONE SHRED OF PHYSICAL PROOF.
After this happens to you several times, you look at the person and
think, "How could you throw away your life on such Bullshit!"
Not for ME, I want to make VALID, REPRODUCIBLE contributions in the
form of increased understanding for myself and others, preferably
taking the form of machines or infallible techniques.
Let's face it, much of the WOOFY (airy-fairy) science and much of
the New Age stuff is pure BS. If we can't build a machine to prove
it, or have others duplicate the effect, then IT AIN'T WORTH
SCREWING WITH!
Don't blow your life down the tube, be CRITICAL, be ANALYTICAL and
read WIDELY so you can see overlapping patterns. ASK for proof,
don't take someone's word that they can levitate or communicate
telepathically, or astrally project, or whatever.
If they ask for a "love donation" and they haven't done any physical
phenomena or shown a working device to produce an unusual effect,
tell them to piss off and get a job.
Forgive my somewhat negative comments, but on reading this paper, I
can't help but to stress the value of HEALTHY SKEPTICISM.

Seventy years ago today, the Battle of Los Angeles occurred, a vicious fight that resulted in three civilian deaths. Haven't heard of it? We're not surprised. The U.S. government said what happened was nighttime antiaircraft crews protecting Los Angeles got nervous -- it was just two months after Pearl Harbor -- and opened fire on a weather balloon. The crews also set off flares, and all the confusion just built on itself. So we're told. Others say the night featured an attempted UFO landing, in which the valiant gun crews fought aliens trying to land. The sightings of what were called "ghost rockets" in Europe, mostly in Sweden, in the aftermath World War II, is well-known to students of UFOlogy, if not to the general public. They were "ghost rockets" in the sense that people reported seeing objects they described as "rockets" or "missiles," yet no evidence of the actual existence of such objects has ever turned up. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost rockets ) Some of the objects were reported to crash into lakes (why was it never a forest?), but despite numerous searches no rocket parts were ever recovered from any lake, or anywhere else.
While I was reflecting on the current epidemic of sightings of "mystery missiles", not only in California but elsewhere, it occurred to me that people were actually reporting "ghost rockets" today. After all, a "mystery missile" is no different from a "ghost rocket." Indeed, it seems likely that some future book about UFOs will contain a sentence along the lines of, "Sightings of 'ghost rockets' began occurring in the U.S. and Canada around 2010." Thus far, all of these North American Ghost Rockets appear to be attributable to high-altitude contrails from jet aircraft.
Were there any high-altitude aircraft capable of creating contrails flying around Scandinavia in 1946? Large planes flying at high altitudes, such as the B-17 or B-29, will typically produce contrails when meteorological conditions are favorable. There is no need for them to be jets. A dispatch from the U.S. Naval Attache in Stockholm, dated Aug. 16, 1946 and formerly classified "Top Secret," talks of "civilian observers reporting jet fighters, contrails and meteors as rockets" ( http://www.project1947.com/gr/grchron2.htm ) The U.S. used the high-altitude B-29 bomber for reconnaissance in the arctic following World War II, as well as in Europe.
Some of the "ghost rockets" were surely meteors, especially those seen at night, described as fast-moving and only seen for a few seconds. Still others were probably astronomical objects, described as bright lights hovering in the night sky. People tend to scrutinize the heavens more than usual when they have heard that unusual objects are zipping about. But other "ghost rockets" were described as moving much more slowly, and flying horizontally. These sound much more like contrails. The single "classic" photo of a Swedish "Ghost Rocket," seen in the Wikipedia article, is usually attributed to a meteor, but looks very much like a high-altitude contrail. Notice the cirrus clouds above it. "Contrails are a form of cirrus cloud," ContrailsScience.com reminds us. Indeed, the meteorological conditions that produce contrails are the same as those producing cirrus clouds. If cirrus clouds cannot be produced, then neither can contrails.

ContrailScience.com has several very interesting incidents of contrail hysteria in the U.S., going back as far as 1950. ( http://contrailscience.com/contrail-confusion-is-nothing-new/ ). That's getting awfully close to 1946.
It has often been suggested that the Swedish "ghost rockets" of 1946, reports of which were carried worldwide, played a role in creating the "flying saucer" excitement that broke out over Kenneth Arnold's sighting the following year. And thus, in creating the entire UFO scenario. So, what I'm suggesting is that the "ghost rockets" excitement of the present year seems to be a replay of the earlier Swedish excitement. We know from present experience that jet contrails can fool even some very sophisticated people into believing that they are seeing rockets or missiles, and this in a time when contrails are already a very familiar sight.
Thus it seems very likely that the main stimulus behind the "ghost rockets" of 1946 was the presence of contrails in the sky, in a time when that phenomenon was new and not at all familiar. World War II had ended just the previous year, and it was known that the U.S. and the USSR were both frantically pursuing missile development, using captured German rocket scientists. Everybody knew that the Cold War could turn into a "hot war" at any moment, and on several occasions it nearly did. Sweden and the rest of Scandinavia were literally in the middle of it, between the allies US/UK/France, and their adversary, the Soviet Union. It is no wonder that, in such an atmosphere, people in Sweden, seeing the unfamiliar new phenomenon of high-altitude contrails, sometimes perceived them as menacing rockets launched by one great power or another.
Those in the U.S. and Canada today, however, who make up conspiracy stories in the same vein, even in situations where "ghost rockets" would have to have been fired on land, do not have the extenuating circumstances that the Swedes had sixty-four years earlier.

A test version of NASA's Orion spacecraft soon will make a cross-country journey, giving residents in three states the chance to see a full scale test version of the vehicle that will take humans into deep space.
The crew module will make stops during a trip from the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The planned landing at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala will be from Feb 2-5. Engineers, program officials, astronauts and NASA spokespeople will be available to speak with the media and the public.
The full-scale test vehicle was used by ground crews in advance of the launch abort system flight test that took place in New Mexico in 2010. Orion will serve as the vehicle that takes astronauts beyond low-Earth orbit, and the first orbital flight test is scheduled for 2014.

Jerry McAlister still believes the object that hovered over his house on Broadway Lake more than 20 years ago was a UFO.
"I can still remember everything that happened. That thing was huge," Mr. McAlister said. "It was solid steel. You could even see the rivets in it. We thought, 'It ain't going to land here is it?' But it just hovered and slid off."
Sitting in the living room of his Boston Street home in Anderson recently, Mr. McAlister, who is now 67, recounted his close encounter with an unexplained, large flying object on Sept. 11, 1980. He woke to the sound of a strange noise, like the whirring of a helicopter, at 4:20 a.m. Then he lived in a ranch-style house on Parnell Road, near Broadway Lake.
When he went to the window, he saw a "large flying saucer hovering over the lawn," he said.
Even now, Mr. McAlister can remember watching some of the young pine trees in his yard wilting under the flying object as it hovered, he said. When he saw it, he called the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, and deputies responded.
No one knew then what the object was.
But it didn't take long for news of the UFO sighting to spread through the community and across the nation. Today, Mr. McAlister has a scrapbook of letters, drawings and articles from local and national publications that told his story.
Several of those stories appeared in the Anderson Independent-Mail. Headlines after the sighting was reported read: "Several Anderson residents convinced strange object was UFO" and "Town buzzes with excitement after possible UFO sighting."
In one photo, a local restaurant owner was pictured next to a sign that read "Welcome little green men."
A small clip of the news item even made it into a newspaper in Paraguay in South America. That clip was mailed to Mr. McAlister. He still has it, along with the note that came with it and the stamp that was on it, tucked away in that scrapbook.
Stories also appeared in two national tabloids in 1980, the Globe in November and the National Enquirer in December.
Mr. McAlister also appeared on the television show "That's Incredible!" that aired on the ABC at the time.
"It was a hot thing for a month or two," he said. "Right after it happened, people were calling from all over the place wanting to set up (recreational vehicles) in our yard. They thought it might be coming back."
When asked if anyone ever doubted him about the story, Mr. McAlister said, "No. Nobody said I was crazy, because a lot of people saw it. It was something."
In fact, six days after Mr. McAlister's sighting, a story appeared in The Easley Progress newspaper about a man spotting a UFO there. And on Sept. 16, the Independent-Mail reported that two more people saw "whirling lights" in the sky above Broadway Lake.
Not long after the sighting, Mr. McAlister and his then-wife Faye moved. For a while Mr. McAlister worked for the Iva Rescue Squad. For the last seven years, he has lived alone in a small single-wide trailer on Boston Street. That scrapbook has been stored away in his bedroom.
"Since I've been here, people have asked me about it," Mr. McAlister said. "But I guess over the last four or five years, I haven't said much about it. It was something back then. I ain't never forgot it."

We are tired of being asked the question: 'Do you believe in UFOs?'
Do we believe in UFOs? No, we don't. Because UFOs aren't a faith, they're a reality. We don't require fervent belief and hope that UFOs exist -- they do. There are photographs, there is film footage, there are physical traces. Unlike the saints of old, UFOs don't need to manifest their likenesses in a piece of toast because they reveal their physical selves to people all the time, every single day.
UFOs are a reality, far more than God who, after all, has yet to appear at or hovering above a shopping mall and pose for a photograph. And if God did pose for a photograph, would the photographer have to run the gamut of disbelief, ridicule, shame and public humiliation that a person who snaps a photograph of a UFO must endure? Hardly, when the face of Jesus in an eggplant receives credible and global media coverage and draws pilgrims from far and wide.
So why must Ufology endure this constant criticism? What status quo does it threaten? Is Science in fact the religion that the New Church of Ufology threatens to topple?
Scientists react to UFOs with the same kind of witch-burning zeal as the Popes of old - and it isn't hard to imagine that the Whitecoats would love to round us up and burn us at the stake for our blaspheming and false idols. All hail the doctrine of evolution. All hail MAN, the greatest pinnacle of biology that any creature on any planet could hope to aspire to!
Or should it be all hail the NEW gods, the DNA-manipulating Greys, the stately perfection of Orthon.
How difficult then is our struggle, fighting against all the old gods of science. Darwin, the Zeus of Evolution, and Sagan, the Ares of our time, zealously guarding the sterile vacuum of space from our irrational imaginations. They rule from on-high, casting their thunderbolts of fear and doubt and confusion upon an unsuspecting world.
How can the tribe fight the gods? More importantly, how can Ufology fight these time-honoured tactics, and win?

LONDON - The men were air traffic controllers. Experienced, calm professionals. Nobody was drinking. But they were so worried about losing their jobs that they demanded their names be kept off the official report.
No one, they knew, would believe their claim an unidentified flying object landed at the airport they were overseeing in the east of England, touched down briefly, then took off again at tremendous speed. Yet that's what they reported happened at 4 p.m. on April 19, 1984.
The incident is one of hundreds of reported sightings contained in more than 1,000 pages of formerly secret UFO documents being released Wednesday by Britain's National Archives. It is one of the few that was never explained.
The air traffic controllers Report of Unusual Aerial Phenomenon' was filed from an unspecified small airport near the eastern coast of England.
The men, each with more than eight years on the job, described how they were helping guide a small plane to a landing on runway 22 when they were distracted by a brightly lit object approaching a different runway without clearance.
'Everyone became aware that the object was unidentified,' their report said. 'SATCO (code name for a controller with 14 years experience) reports that the object came in 'at speed,' made a touch and go on runway 27, then departed at 'terrific speed' in a 'near vertical' climb.'
The incident is one of the more credible in the newly public files because it was reported by air traffic controllers, said David Clarke, a UFO expert who worked with the National Archives on the document release.
'They were absolutely astonished,' he said. 'It was a bright, circular object, flashing different colors, and after it touched down it disappeared at fantastic speed. The report comes from very qualified people, and it's one of the few that remained unexplained.'
But while there are some unexplained cases in the papers, there is no reported instance in which the Ministry of Defense found any evidence of alien activity or alien spacecraft, said Clarke, who nonetheless expects conspiracy theories about a UFO cover-up by the British defense establishment to persist.
'The Ministry of Defense doesn't have any evidence that our defenses were breached by alien craft,' Clarke said. 'They never found one, no bits of one. That's all we can say.'
Clarke said the released documents, dealing with the late 1970s and early 1980s, are the first batch in a series that will be made public in the next few years.
The National Archives is releasing the files because of numerous freedom of information requests seeking information about the government's UFO reports. Officials said that names of many individuals had been blacked out to protect their privacy and that the entire files had been reviewed to make sure their release did not compromise national security.
Ministry of Defense officials indicate in the files that UFO reports were only investigated to make sure no enemy aircraft had illegally entered British airspace. This was crucial during the Cold War when Russian planes posed a threat.
Officials said they did not try to solve UFO riddles once an enemy attack had been ruled out.
The vast majority of UFO reports come from members of the public who see strange things in the sky and jump to the conclusion that a UFO is involved even though there are logical explanations for what they observe, experts said.
'The most common things are aircraft lights, bright stars and planets, satellites, meteors, airships and things like that,' said Nick Pope, another UFO expert who helped the Ministry of Defense investigate the phenomenon.v That was the case when a number of people leaving a Tunbridge Wells pub one night reported seeing a strange craft 'with red and green' lights, according to the released documents.
Asked by police where the object seemed to be traveling, the pub crawlers said it appeared to be heading for London's Gatwick Airport. It didn't take a scientist to figure out it was a commercial plane making a routine approach.v

"On June 6, 1884, as a band of cowboys rounded up cattle in remote Dundy County, Nebraska, a blazing object streaked out of the sky and crashed some distance from them, leaving (ACCORDING TO A CONTEMPORARY NEWSPAPER ACCOUNT) "FRAGMENTS OF COG-WHEELS AND OTHER PIECES OF MACHINERY... GLOWING WITH HEAT SO INTENSE AS TO SCORCH THE GRASS FOR A LONG DISTANCE AROUND EACH FRAGMENT." The light was so intense that it blinded one of the witnesses.
This incredible event was recorded two days later in Lincoln's Daily State Journal, which printed a dispatch from Benkelman, Nebraska, by an anonymous correspondent. The correspondent wrote that prominent local citizens had gone to the site, where the metal now had cooled. He reported, "THE AEROLITE, OR WHATEVER IT IS, SEEMS TO BE ABOUT 50 OR 60 FEET LONG, CYLINDRICAL, AND ABOUT 10 OR 12 FEET IN DIAMETER." A State Journal editor remarked that this must have been an "air vessel belonging originally to some other planet."
But on June 10 an anticlimactic dispatch came from Benkelman. In a heavy rainstorm the remains had "MELTED, DISSOLVED BY THE WATER LIKE A SPOONFUL OF SALT." The obvious message: Take the story with a grain of sodium chloride. The State Journal, red-faced, dropped it then and there.
In the 1960s a copy of the first newspaper article resurfaced, and reporters, historians, and ufologists rushed to Dundy County. Lifelong residents of the area assured them no such thing had ever happened. Later, even after the telltale follow-up dispatch was uncovered, one humorless author theorized that the "storm was artificially created so that a UFO concealed within the clouds could retrieve the wreckage of the crashed UFO

The so-called "mystery missile" photographed off Los Angeles on Monday (see previous Blog entry) was quickly identified as an aircraft contrail by responsible investigators, but apparently it has morphed into a "mystery" that's too good to give up. UFO SIGHTING IN PRESCOTT, ARIZONA ON JUNE 10TH 2013 - TWO SILENT, BRIGHT WHITE LIGHTS THAT HOVERED AND THEN MOVED AWAY RAPIDLY IN IRREGULAR FLIGHT PATH
I am currently on a camping trip south of Prescott AZ. Last night I went to bed soon after midnight. Because there isn't any chance of rain I set up my tent without the rainfly so I could see the stars. I'm unsure of the time but i estimate sometime between 2:30 and 4 a.m. I woke up having to use the bathroom. Lying on my back I was looking up at the stars when I noticed a brighter than usual star directly above me. I have no idea how high it was because it only appeared to be a star. It was a very bright white, almost with a blue tint to it. I don't know the location of constellations other than a fewmajor ones and the north star so it didn't occur to me that it could be anything other than a star. Then it started moving maybe two or three minutes after I initially noticed it. It was faster than any plane I have ever seen up here, and that comparison includes 2 fighter jets I saw last year, (f-16's I think). I would say it was going a little faster than the jets did. It moved in a nne direction, in a straight line initially, then after it had crossed about 1/3 of the horizon it began to zig left and right in about 1 second durations, doing the same angle of change each time and continuing nne overall. Each turn might have been 5 degrees or so. It only took about 20 seconds for it to go beyond the horizon I could see. I was more alert and scanned the sky for a little while and saw another light maybe 5 minutes later I noticed another stationary light is similar brightness wnw of me. I watched it for a few minutes and then it started moving at about the same speed to the right across the horizon from my perspective. I was only able to see it for a few seconds before its path took it behind a mountain that blocked any more view of it. There was no moon out, no clouds, no wind and no other lights like planes at that time. I didn't hear any sound at all I would associate with aircraft, just very silent. I intend to be up here camping for a few more days so I would be happy to show an investigator where I am or provide gps coordinates.
