I need to be honest about something. I've considered adopting an "Ancient Alien Theorist" title for some time now. Long before movie audiences started caring about the Engineers from "Prometheus", this has been a passion of mine - but I am not entirely sure how one gets that Theorist badge; it feels kind of like a self-ascribed sort of thing. Is there some test to prove my rabid obsession for all things ancient alien has crossed the threshold to theorist-level knowledge? I hate tests.
Am I a fan of History Channel's "Ancient Aliens"? And the answer is YES! (Giorgio A. Tsoukalos fans will get that one). And my fandom isn't of the "passive, sit on couch and watch a great TV show" variety. It is of the "nearly show up late to Giorgio's lecture at Columbia University because you're trying to find a campus bookstore so you can make an emergency purchase to more effectively take notes" variety. Not only was I honored to introduce Giorgio (and his hair) to the crowd at his latest tour stop, I was psyched to pick the Ancient Alien Theorist brain over a number of cocktails after.
Look, to add some credibility to this article, I'm just going to go ahead and officially take that professional label. So, speaking formally now as an Ancient Alien Theorist, here is my assessment (in dramatic countdown fashion) of the Top 10 most compelling examples that aliens were, indeed, a part of our history (after the jump...)

ANCIENT ASTRONAUT FIGURES
There are many ancient stone figurines depicting "Sky People" scattered across the world, with one global commonality: they appear to be wearing space helmets, complete with breathing apparatuses. What exactly were our ancestors trying to depict?

These ancient Indian flying machines found in Sanskrit texts as early as 1,500 BC are more technologically advanced than anything in existence today. Egypt has been long thought of as a highly mysterious ancient alien hotspot. One concrete example depicting inexplicably-advanced technology are the Dendera Lights. These three stone reliefs are part of the Dendera Archaeological complex, located on the banks of the Nile. The carvings clearly portray electrical technology and show an insulator, bulb, cord and elongated filaments found in industrial lighting. When viewed from the historical timeline of mankind's scientific knowledge, the technology accessible to the Egyptians is almost unimaginable without some sort of "outside assistance."

While there are many curious examples of UFO-shaped objects in classical art, this one just seems blatant. Crivelli painted this biblical scene in 1486. You can clearly see a disk-shaped object shining a beam of light through the house wall and down onto Mary's head. There are many interesting comparisons between what we know as religion today, and what could have potentially been extraterrestrial sightings, when one considers the time period. Without exposure to airplanes, etc, the assumption of aliens or spacecrafts as "gods coming from the heavens" makes historically contextual sense.

The Dogon were also able to correctly identify the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn, all without the assistance of a telescope. Their astronomical knowledge remains as mysterious as it is accurate.

In Peru's Nazca Desert lies a collection of ancient designs stretching over 50 miles. These lines and shapes include drawings of animals, birds and humans - some as large as 600-feet across. Ancient Alien Theorists (like me) assert the lines served as guideposts and spacecraft runways.

These ruins are part of a large temple complex near Tiwanaku, Bolivia. The monoliths (some over 120 metric tons!) came from quarries over 80 miles away, leaving many unanswered questions about their transportation. Considering the technology of the time, it's hard to imagine the structure was built using tools of that era when we could barely replicate that precision using today's advance machinery.
When you look at the preponderance of evidence across thousands of years, it becomes clear that there are unanswered questions that traditional archaeologists are unable, or unwilling, to address. If even one of these 10 examples is accepted evidence of ancient aliens, then we have to start thinking about the universe - and our own history - very differently.

Date: March 21, 2012 Time: Approx: 9:30 p.m. Hello Brian, my name is (name removed). I read your story this morning and was intrigued. I live in Cambridge Ontario, Canada. Last night around 9:30 p.m. (March 21/2012) I was in my girlfriends backyard checking out a cool astrology app I got for my iPhone. I was looking towards my northwest at some star systems. After a few minutes, my girlfriend started freaking out and pointed out a boomerang shaped craft heading from south to north. It was moving at a good rate of speed. The craft was a flat black color, silent and had no lights. I may add that it was a clear night with no clouds in the sky. This was not a big flock of birds. It was moving faster then any bird can ever fly. It's elevation was approximately 600-700 feet and was about 70-80 yards from wing tip to wing tip. It was hard to tell because everything happened so fast.
This was the first craft I've ever seen, and same goes for my girlfriend. It was unbelievable! Hopefully I can see it again and maybe catch it on video. Hope to hear more stories like it. SIGHTING DETAILS
It was 5.20 pm on the evening of a day in late October 1982. Simon and his wife at the time, Chloe, were travelling home from Stafford after a day at work. They were driving along Eccleshall Road and had just passed through the village of Great Bridgeford. Immediately following the village was a stretch of road lined with trees and with farmer's fields either side of it. Suddenly ahead of them off to the right of the road they saw a dark disc-shaped object. It appeared to be between 300-350 feet in the air, and was moving very slowly in a a South Westerly direction. At first they assumed it must be a helicopter but then they realised that it had no lights on.

The witnesses began to drive closer to the object. As they got nearer they realised that it was a very dark pewter colour, and had no visible markings on it or protrusions of any kind. It was roughly 30 feet in diameter, and was only moving at around 10-15 mph. It passed across the road in front of them at an angle of around 45 degrees. Despite the fact that there were other drivers on the road, nobody else seemed to have noticed the object, or did but did not bother stopping. Simon pulled up the car in an open gateway.

As they got out of the car to continue watching it, the disc suddenly stopped moving. It hung in the air completely silently. Then, without warning, a ring of segmented lights around the circumference of the base of the object appeared. The lights were multi-coloured and included red, green, blue and yellow, possibly other colours. They were flashing on and off in sequence giving the appearance of rotation. Simon does not believe the UFO itself was rotating. After about 15 seconds the UFO started moving again on the same course and at the same speed as before. They continued to watch it until it went out of sight.
Simon and his wife continued to watch the object for several minutes until it had gone out of sight. They were both amazed at what they had just seen, and also both felt like the UFO had stopped on their behalf so that they could get a good look at it.

When they got back home, Simon immediately contacted their friend Tony who used to work for BUFORA. They were aware that he had an interest in the subject. They let him know about the sighting and immediately logged it. To Simon's and my knowledge the report that was written up does not exist on-line anywhere, which is why I have decided to investigate this case.
Later on Simon was informed by his brother-in-law that there had been another UFO sighting on the same evening. Someone in Pershaw had seen a very low bright red light at around 6.45 pm, 1 hour and 25 minutes after Simon and Chloe's sighting. Pershaw is only several miles away from Great Bridgeford. Perhaps this was another sighting of the same object at a greater distance.
SIGHTING ANALYSIS
This is a fascinating close encounter with what could well have been a genuine disc-shaped craft of extra-terrestrial origin. The fact that the object was moving on a steady course, then came to a halt in the sky just as the witnesses got out of their car, before continuing on its way, suggests that it was both under direct control and actually observing Simon and Chloe. It was clearly not a conventional aircraft of any kind, and was too large to have been a remote controlled model.
The disc shape of the object and the rotating multi-coloured lights which suddenly appeared on it mean it was very unlikely to be a large inflatable object such as a blimp. We can only speculate as to the reason for these lights. It is interesting that they started while the witnesses were looking up at the object. This may suggest that they were putting on some kind of display on purpose. Or perhaps this was merely coincidence, and the lights served some other function. I have investigated other cases where disc-shaped craft with revolving lights around the rim have been observed, including abduction cases. Other than the sudden appearance of the lights, there is no evidence that the witnesses had any direct interaction with the craft or its occupants on this occasion.
Due to the striking lighting configuration on the UFO, it is possible that there may have been other witnesses elsewhere who are yet to come forward.

UFO SIGHTING IN HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA ON JULY 7TH 2013 - OBJECT CAPTURED ON FILM ABOVE OCEAN, NOT SEEN WITH HUMAN EYEOn Sunday, July 7, 2013, I was photographing both of my sons playing in the ocean at Huntington Beach, California. The time was approximately noon and we were located on the left side of the pier. I took several photographs and did not notice anything in the sky or in the camera lens that seemed out of sorts. Approximately two hours later, we had moved to the north side of the pier (right side) and I again took several photographs. Again, nothing appeared out of the normal. Once home, I began the task of reviewing our photographs and noticed that on two (out of dozens) there appears to be a oval, round shaped black object hovering in the sky. It appears closer in one shot and farther out in the second. I cannot explain these objects. Some plausible explanations have been kite surfers, but no surfers appear in the shots and we did not notice any kite surfers at the time. There are reflections on the object that match the direction of the light. I took several shots in sequence at this area, and these are the only two that they appear in. You've heard about flying saucers - but how about a flying crisp? A UFO which resembles a popular salty snack has been spotted in the skies over Britain for the third time in as many years.
The space invader, dubbed by locals the 'Dudley Dorito', was sighted over the Midlands.
In the latest sighting of the 'extra-terrestrial tortilla chip', quality inspector Munesh Mistry, 21, spotted the triangular object in the the skies above his home in Tipton, West Midlands at around 10.15pm on Sunday.
His sighting comes just weeks after a UFO was spotted hovering over nearby Sutton Coldfield on the eve of Bonfire Night.
That time the triangular object, which was reportedly four or five times the size of a commercial airliner, was seen by local David Allen, from Boldmere on November 4.
The sightings have echoes of reports received during 2007 and 2008, which also claimed to have seen the Dudley Dorito swooping through the night skies.
Mr Mistry, who spotted the object with his friend Neil Martin, also 21, said: 'Me and my closest friend saw an amazing fast-moving and silent craft in the shape of a triangle made up of what appeared to be three lights fly across the sky at a mind-boggling speed.
'At first it looked like three birds flying in unison, then when seeing the triangle shape, we both were amazed and immediately discarded that explanation.' He added they promptly logged onto the internet and saw previous sightings online.
He said: 'We wondered if there were any other reports of a similar sighting, as we are both convinced that what we saw was either a spy plane being used by the military, if not, in my opinion is it is hardcore proof that it is an extraterrestrial spacecraft.'
In February last year a UFO sighting was recorded by Sean Gibbs-Percival over the skies of Oldbury.
On April 16 last year builders working at West Midland Safari Park were shocked to see a flying saucer-shaped object soaring above them, while on April 4, two bright orange UFOs shaped like Cornish pasties were spotted flying over Sedgley.
Other hard to ignore triangular UFO sightings were also reported in Halesowen in November 2007 and Nottingham in October this year.
Dorito UFO spotted over UK skies
A photograph from the 2007 sighting was sent to policeman - and part time UFO expert - Gary Heseltine.
He said: "It's a very intriguing photograph that was taken purely by chance.
"If it's genuine it could be one of the most convincing pieces of evidence collected about aliens from the UK ever"
There has also been a recent rash of mass UFO sightings in China, with one particularly striking example hovering over Zhejiang Province for over three hours.
In 2008 the Ministry of Defence released their UFO 'X-Files' as part of a plan to appear more transparent on UFO research and sightings. Previously, details of classified reports were kept secret for 30 years.
A spokeswoman said the incidents are recorded but unless a security threat is suspected the Ministry does not investigate further.
"We only investigate if there have been any objects in British air space that may be military," she said. "Unless there's evidence of a potential threat we don't investigate."
The MoD took details of 135 events in which mysterious objects were seen in our skies by witnesses including three pilots. Just 97 were reported in 2006.

My process is sorta all over the map.
I say the same thing over and over and over. I have all these puzzle pieces that are interlocked on the table, and they absolutely make a picture. There are pieces missing but I can certainly infer what's in those blank spots. I'M LEFT TO CONCLUDE THAT I AM AN ALIEN ABDUCTEE. But, "without knowing" absolutely what's inside those blank areas, it just feels dishonest to make that claim.
So - I go right up to the line with how I present myself. I say (rather awkwardly) that I am someone who might have, maybe, experienced some sort of contact event in my life, but it might be on some dream-like or ethereal level that is hard to explain. Maybe, sorta, kinda.

Now, that said, I have been told by psychics (more than one) that I came to the earth plane after consciously choosing "NOT" to remember these experiences. For some reason, there is a purpose to this "NOT" knowing. As strange as that sounds, this seems to "feel" like a truism.
I think my personal level of acceptance or denial can waver on a sort of continuum, depending on how the wind blows.

I don't think that's wishy washy at all. I think it shows that your bumping into a dynamic, complex unknown set of experiences and doing your honest best to apprise them.
I don't mean to sound as if I've "graduated" beyond these experiences to some level of proficient, fearless interaction...I simply have not. I guess I have some measure of peace that I didn't a decade or so ago. I think these experiences, and all the ancillary stressors that seem to come with the territory, take an enormous toll.
